One Teacher's Dismissal

There was one teacher employed at Yes Youngdo who was fired and given only a week left on their visa. This meant they had to leave the country within a week or pay a fine for overstaying. I heard from other teachers that they couldn't get a flight back to the US/Canada and settled for one to Europe. They also said that this person said they wished they had been given a little more notice. In my opinion, even if a hagwon has every reason to fire a teacher, they have to be considerate. Losing your job as an English teacher in Korea means losing your apartment and your visa. In some countries, for example China, foreign teachers can hold on to their visa after leaving a job.

Losing your job, your income, your visa, having to move out of your apartment, finding a plane ticket, saying goodbye to your friends, closing your bank account, finding someone to take things like your cell phone or cooking untensils and getting to the airport is a lot in one week!

The teacher who told me this story also thought that Yes Youngdo was unfair to this dismissed teacher.
